Standing in the yard

I heard a train whistle way

off in the distance…

tracks disappearing

as the train rolls on and on

farther down the line.

Thoughts of you and the

miles just keep stretching further

and further apart…

Not even one stop

at any point on those tracks

as the engine whines

and my lonely heart

moans the never ending trudge

while time passes by

as day after day

rolls by with no end in sight

until forgotten…

but not forgotten

faint whistle again reveals

my path back to you.

    1. Thank you Andi. As a child, I can remember always hearing distant train whistles while playing in my grandmother’s yard.

  4. Journeys always have a past and always brings some kind of hope. Hope of starting off in a new place with the aspirations of finding success, hopes of meeting loved ones, hopes of finding the answer to something very dear in life, hopes of seeing and experiencing new things and so much more. A whistle from the train acts not just like a awakening streak but something that also wakes up those hopes. I loved your poem Greg and you have got a wonderful talent.

Best wishes from The Strong Traveller and have a great day.
