Tendai-ji 天台寺

A photo essay of Tendai-ji Temple in Joboji.

As we wandered around the Tohoku region of northern Japan, we came across Tendai-ji Temple. Tendai-ji is the oldest temple in the Tohoku region. It was not much different than most temples, but it seemed to ooze a patient history. One of the rooms housed the most beautiful wooden paintings. No photos were allowed of those paintings, so you will have to travel to Tendai-ji yourself to see them. Tendai-ji is not far from Misawa, about an hour down the toll road toward Morioka in the small village of Joboji.
