Thoughts on a “Friendsgiving” of the past.
Greg VessarI love music, I love to travel, and I love to write. My blog "A Thousand Miles from Kansas" combines all three. I am a Kansas boy and an educator on sabbatical. I have lived in many places around the globe and I currently live in northern Japan. Journey with me as I combine my loves of music, travel, and the written word as I navigate through life.

We lost Eddie Van Halen on October 6, 2020 and, truth be told, I am still processing his death. I have been Van Halen fan since I was in the ninth grade. He was a guitar virtuoso and he literally changed the way rock guitar was played.
Back patio thoughts as Misawa gives me an unexpectedly warm day today! I’ll take it as the snow will be here soon. Winter is coming!

I heard a loud squawking of crows the other day to find a murder gathered around a crow that had died. It seemed as though they were grieving and then plotting a revenge!
A photo and haiku of a lone bus stop chair in northern Japan. Recently published in Dust Poetry Magazine!
The days have been rainy and are now turning cold. Misawa winter is right around the corner.
Typhoon Dolphin has been pounding the eastern coast of Japan.
I always find myself at water’s edge for deep reflections.
