The often cold and chilly weather here in Misawa, Japan is a perfect excuse to slurp down a steaming hot bowl of ramen. And that is exactly what my friend Phillip and I did yesterday. We slurped down some spicy ramen for lunch!
Cold Gin Time Again!
“Cold Gin” is one of my favorite KISS songs. The rock group KISS and gin go together like rock goes with roll. It is also one of my favorite drinks on a hot summer night and when playing Cribbage.
Dwight’s Top Ten: 1,000 Miles from Kansas Pt. 2
Dwight’s Top Ten. #2 is a reminder that the late great Buck Owens was more than just the “guy from the TV show Hee Haw”!
A Thousand Miles from Kansas
Why “A Thousand Miles from Kansas”? Easy. Dwight Yoakam, South Korea, and a yearning for home.
Baseball Bat + Water = Blood!
“Brian, are you okay?” My immediate thought was not again! It was just a few months ago that I untangled my brothers injured and bloodied body from his bicycle on the gravel road leading to Stranger Creek. I immediately covered his wound with my hand and applied pressure to stop the gusher of blood pouring out of his head. “What are you doing? It doesn’t even hurt.” He must have been in shock.
Bicycle + Gravel = Crash
It began as a normal day of exploring on our bicycles. Little did we know that it would turn into a bloody terror.
That’s My Brother! Award Recognizes SAEC-CC/DC Partnership
A big SHOUT OUT to my brother, Brian, and his colleagues for receiving the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA) Humanitarian Award!
Atchison’s Good Ol’ Days
I wrote an essay titled “Atchison, Kurashiki, and the Moody Blues” (Moody Blues as in missing my Grandma Moody, not the prog rock band…although they rock!). It was published in the Atchison Daily Globe on January 5, 1999. I even found it in the on-line archives of the newspaper! In memory of my Grandma Moody, I now share it with all of you. And how I truly wish the last paragraph was still possible today. I miss you Grandma.
Intellectual Rock: A RUSH Top Ten!
I stayed up late last night watching a Netflix documentary on one of my favorite bands: RUSH! If you have never given RUSH a serious listen, you should! You can start with my Top Ten RUSH songs.
Butter on Ramen? Only in Aomori, Japan!
Check out the only place you can enjoy the buttery, creamy taste of ramen. Yes, butter! Butter is not something one usually associates with a bowl of ramen, but there it was! A thick pat of butter perched majestically atop an island of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and ramen noodles!
