As Robert Frost lamented, “Miles to go before I sleep”.
Greg VessarI love music, I love to travel, and I love to write. My blog "A Thousand Miles from Kansas" combines all three. I am a Kansas boy and an educator on sabbatical. I have lived in many places around the globe and I currently live in northern Japan. Journey with me as I combine my loves of music, travel, and the written word as I navigate through life.
Plumeria trees and the blossoms they produce are one of my favorite tropical flowers. They are simply beautiful.
There are no such things as little moments.
The Blanket of Night
Standing oceanside at night on Kwajalein allows the mind to wander.
If the seas continue to rise, the flooding will be much worse. Some islands out here in the South Pacific will simply disappear. Even a 2 degree change will be tragic for this area. Politics need to be set aside and options need to be discussed.
A poem for those at waters edge living every day with the effects of climate change.
Sitting behind my friend Christi and her family at church allowed me to witness this act of pure love. I sent her this picture and she gave me permission to post her family moment.
Scent of a Lanai
You never know what an island breeze will send your way…or the effect will have on you.
You never know who you will come across when walking the shores of Kwajalein!
Elton John Top Ten w/a Shot of Bradbury!
Elton John and his songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, were fans of Ray Bradbury’s writing and the song “Rocket Man” was, in fact, inspired by Bradbury’s 1951 short story “The Rocket Man”. I recommend reading the Bradbury short story “The Rocket Man” and then plug in the earbuds (or Seashells?) and give Elton’s “Rocket Man” a listen. Neither one will disappoint.
