Journey Top Ten and a Message to Steve Perry

KY102BumperSticker

One of the great rock radio stations. A Kansas City legend! I actually had this bumper sticker on my car!

Journey…one of my favorite bands. Easy to make a top ten list, right? Wrong! This was a hard list to narrow down to just ten songs. And, as you may have noticed, there are eleven songs. The reason for this is the fact that I always consider “Feeling That Way” and “Anytime” as one song. Back in the days of KY102 rock radio in the Kansas City area, DJs often let the tracks run together due to the awesome acapella ending of “Feeling That Way” and awesome acapella intro to “Anytime”, thusly in turn, in my mind they are one song!

Journey was recently inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame (which I never put much stock in as I think the organization is biased and not a true representation of greatness). Like many Journey fans, I was eager to see if Steve Perry would, not only attend, but sing with his old band. Sadly for all Journey fans, Perry attended to accept the award with his old band, but refused to sing with them. To be honest, as much as I like Perry as a singer, I lost some respect for him due to that decision. Although he disappointed me and the majority of his fans, I still love to listen to Journey and the band has been and continues to be a big part of my musical life. From Infinity to Frontiers, Journey was a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock music. I saw them in concert on the Evolution, Escape, Frontiers, and Raised on Radio tours. The last time I went to a Journey concert was a couple of years ago in Las Vegas. I thought I should check out  their new singer (he’s not so new anymore as he has been with them for more than ten years now!). Nothing against Arnel (he has a great voice), but he is not Steve and Journey was just not the same band I remembered. On the way home from that Vegas concert, Melissa and I loaded our classic Journey playlist into the car stereo and rocked out all the way home! One last message, “Hey Steve! Call your old band mates and get together for one last tour!” Please!

  2. This is a great post. It took me back to a lot of memories thinking about these songs. I totally agree about Steve. I couldn’t believe he didn’t perform one last time at least with the band. Maybe someday who knows.
